94 Points / Editors’ Choice – Top 100 Wine of 2015 – Wine Enthusiast – EXTREMELY LIMITED – one bottle per person
Tasting Notes by Paul Gregutt / Wine Enthusiast: With fruit sourced from the excellent Hyland Vineyard, this blends a pair of Dijon clones and was aged in half new French oak for 15 months. Black cherry and cola syrup flavors combine in a sappy, concentrated midpalate. Highlights of underbrush and balsamic add flavor interest, and the dry, polished tannins frame the flavors perfectly. There’s every reason to believe this can age well, but why wait?
Romance Copy: Our 2012 Melodia is a blend of fruit from two clones of Pinot noir grown on a hilltop vineyard in the foothills of the coastal mountains at historic Hyland Estates near McMinnville.
The ripe clusters were hand harvested and sorted at dawn on a beautiful 49 degree October 5th morning and immediately transported to the winery where we again hand sorted through the fruit. The clusters, consisting of Dijon 667 and 777 were then destemmed and placed in small bins to cold soak until fermentation began with the indigenous yeast provided by nature in the vineyards.
After a series of manual punch downs, the wine was pressed, settled and transferred to 100% French oak barrels for fifteen months where primary and ML fermentations were completed.
